Aquarius Backpackers Resort

Paid a little extra for a “private room” for our one night stay. The room itself is a side room to a main dorm, and had no air conditioning. The room was dirty, the beds were unmade on arrival and the mattresses were severely worn down. The door to our “private room” didn’t close due to the bed getting in the way and so noise was an issue all night. One shared bathroom amongst 10 people as reception and communal facilities also shut down at 9pm, at which point it turns into what is basically a run down Motel -Room toilets were also pretty sub-standard. Staff were good for the most part but no apology when we told them our beds were still dirty from previous occupants. Entertainment facilities are good, with a pool table and table-tennis table and a nice pool area, so this was a plus. Overall, I appreciate you get what you pay for with a hostel but after staying at dozens of others up and down the east coast, this is comfortably the worst one I’ve stayed at. Would recommend steering clear if you can.

Uncomfortable, dirty and a huge disappointment. Do yourself a favour and book elsewhere. From mattresses that leave your back in pieces, to ants and cockroaches that are ever present in the room, and a lack of responsibility for hostel errors and the actions other guests, it was a really bad experience. I did meet some nice people at the hostel, however, the place to comfortably stay aspect was poor.
